The first time I really started to take a liking to the band U2 was with their release of the album “Elevation” in 2000. I had run across the band numerous times before, (who hasn’t heard of “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”) but I had never really listened to them much up until this point. Being on tour with V*Enna, this was a season we ate, slept and breathed music, so it definitely left its mark on me. One of the singles from the album is called “Stuck in a moment you can’t get out of” and that is the song today’s message has taken its title from.

Sometimes in life it can feel like we are chasing daylight, never have enough time, energy or money, and that we are always falling just a little short of the goal, whether it is in our personal lives or our life with God. We feel like we’ve tried and tried again, just to fall short yet another time. It can be tempting to give up, to no longer fight for the dreams we once had and instead to conform to living an “average” life, whatever that is. We lose heart and we get discouraged, maybe even wondering what the point is of it all. We might have started out great, but life has taken its toll, both physically and emotionally. We just can’t do it. We truly feel stuck in a moment.

It is at that point, we really need to get back to the roots of our faith, to rediscover what life is truly all about. We so easily lose focus and forget that our faith is meant to be a relationship, not a religion. We forget that we are not supposed to live life in our own strength, but to live our lives in Him and through Him. We’ve realize that maybe without even noticing we have lost our first love but it doesn’t have to stay that way. All it takes is for our hearts to be awakened again.

Some of us have maybe never put our trust in God, and instead have tried to navigate through life on our own to the best of our capacity, and found ourselves painfully lost and wanting. If that is you, you can experience the love of Jesus for the very first time this morning, and hear that He has been waiting for you to invite Him to lead you and guide you.

No matter where we are in life, the condition of our heart is vital, a matter of life and death. It is impossible to live life to the full in our own strength, so it is up to us whether we will continue to fail or surrender our lives to Him and finally fully live!

For the Kingdom,
