A Note From Pastor Chuck

North Dakota has the fastest growing population rate in the United States. I don’t think it is because of their balmy weather. Fargo, the largest city there, has an average yearly temperature of 42 degrees. It is the coldest state in the US…of course, Nancy might really like that. It can be blazing hot in the summer too. I don’t think the state is growing because of its beauty either. It is growing because of a plethora of job opportunities and great wages to match. Even some McDonalds are paying $18 bucks and hour and sometimes giving signing bonuses to lure new employees. Of course, that means paying double for a happy meal.

In case you haven’t noticed, our church is growing. I’m not entirely sure why it’s growing, but I don’t think it is because of the building or the loca- tion. The sanctuary is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. It’s crowd- ed, small, we share our place with a very good restaurant open during the week, and we are downtown with all its restrictions and policies. We have no lawn or playground for kids either. Simply put, few go to church here because of our glorious facilities!

I believe that ultimately, many people are looking for God. They want to seek Him, they want to know Him. Hopefully, we are a place where they can find Him. As far as I can tell, that is why we are growing; Jesus is wel- come and you are inviting your family and friends to experience Him with us. To be sure, we place Jesus at the center of our worship because He is the only way to God the Father.

Someday, we might just move into a larger venue. We always have one eye open to that very possibility. We need more room; a bigger place to fit more people. Church is not a building actually, it is a gathering of God’s people; but very few would like to gather in a park together outside in the rain and cold, then again, maybe my wife would. We need a place. Wherever we might be, we will be Fathers House. We don’t have to move to Fargo for prosperity, it can happen right here in Longview- Kelso. Besides, I like cheap happy meals.
