Wouldn’t you love to someday get an inheritance?  Any inheritance would be nice, but I’m talking about a big inheritance, hundreds of thousands of dollars nice.  Yea, that would be sweet.  A very small percentage of Americans actually get one; A mere 15% in fact.  Some spend and invest the money wisely.  Some choose poorly with their inheritance.  I enjoyed watching the latest “hotel hell” episode featuring our very own Monticello Hotel.  In the episode, the owner, who inherited the hotel and a small fortune, was portrayed as one who didn’t invest his inheritance wisely. I suspect his former employees were laughing their fool heads off when Chef Ramsey said to him, “Sell your cars and use the money to pay your staff the way they should be paid.”  Good advice though sadly unheeded.  There is nothing wrong with desiring an inheritance.  You might call it a reward.

The Bible talks of both reward and inheritance as being good.  You and I will be rewarded for the works we do in faith and we will receive an inheritance if we walk humbly before God.  Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”  I have no idea what the earth is worth in dollars, but my guess is that it is more than a paltry couple hundred thousand.  In effect, Jesus was saying, “If you are humble, you will get a nice inheritance.”  You won’t have to marry an old rich person, you won’t have to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth, no, you just have to be humble. Don’t think you are all that and a bag of chips.  Be willing to be yourself.  Realize you need God and be willing to put others ahead of yourself from time to time.

The Monticello Hotel or a few dollars would be nice to receive but I think I’ll opt for the earth.
