Cancer Recovery

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

New Hope Cancer Recovery is a faith-based support group open to all cancer patience, their families and friends.  It began in 1996 when Kim Walters found herself struggling with her own grief following both her parents’ deaths from cancer, she cried out to God for help.  In answers to her prayers, the Lord touched her heart and birthed a vision for the New Hope Cancer Recovery Ministry.

Today Kim facilitates the support group, encourages people on the phone, meets with new people over coffee and visits the hospital, Hospice Care Center and Women’s Health Pavilion, plus she makes “road trips” to other cities, as necessary.

Every member becomes her friend.  She rejoices with and supports them in whatever medical reports they receive from their physicians.  When she attends funerals she finds healing in sharing their stories and celebrating the lives of her dear friends because each one means so much to her.

Kim has a deep desire to help family members and friends stay connected to their loved ones during their illness.  Family members sometimes struggle with how to realistically cope in the face of a cancer diagnosis in someone they love.  Because Kim stayed connected to her parents during their cancers, it taught her ways to make this journey less painful for relatives and friends of cancer patients.
